Alcohol and Football

Its common in team sports to celebrate wins by consuming a few drinks. Alcohol unfortunately is a diuretic i.e. it increases urinary output. This in turn slows down the important process of rehydration or replenishing of the body`s water stores, which is so vital to any sports person.

Thus, post-match its vital that a footballer should rehydrate with water or sports drinks. This should be followed by `refueling' using high carbohydrate foods and only then, should he consume any alcoholic beverage and that too, in moderation.
